FAQs
The site and proposals
-
The site is located on land known as Down Barn Farm, to the south east of Boarhunt Road, north of Junction 11 on the M27, a major strategic road along the south coast.
-
Previously the site was used by National Highways to support with upgrading the M27 Smart Motorway works. Currently it continues to be used by contractors on behalf of National Highways for the M27 Junctions 5 to 7 Concrete Overlay Scheme.
-
The site is situated centrally within the wider Solent region, north of Junction 11 on the M27, which connects Southampton and Portsmouth, with Fareham, Gosport and Porchester to the south. This placement within the road network combined with the close distance from the port makes it a unique location.
Net Zero
-
The proposals include Electric Vehicle charging points for lorries, cargo trailers and other vehicles. This switch to electric vehicles will significantly reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to Fareham’s Net zero goals.
Highways and access
-
The main access point opens out onto Boarhunt Road and has been established for number of years. A second emergency access point is located towards the rear of the site.
Ecology and biodiversity
-
The landowner is committing to delivering a net gain for biodiversity and is targeting in excess of 10% Biodiversity Net Gain if possible. There is significant structural planting, open green space and vegetated embankment, which would contribute to minimising any visual impacts of the site. There are also several proposed drainage features.
Consultation
-
Yes, there will be a public consultation between Friday 10 January and Monday 27 January. We will also be hosting a drop in event on Tuesday 21 January between 11am – 2pm at The Delme Arms, 1 Cams Hill, Portchester, Fareham, PO16 8QY, where we look forward to hearing the views of the community and gather any feedback to help shape the scheme.
